How a Tragedy Turns into A Legacy in the Great Falls Community
It may be 5 years removed from 2026, but memories are still fresh of a tragic accident that happened in 2021 outside of Great Falls, Montana. The accident took the lives of Tyler and Wyatt Weir, a father and son from our community.
During those 5 years since that horrific accident, the Weir family has continued to persevere and continue to give back to our community through the Weir Family Foundation.

Giving Even More - Weir Family Announce New Scholarships
For 2026, the Weir family in conjunction with the Great Falls Public School Foundation (GFPSF), will be offering two new scholarships for students. Students must be enrolled with Great Falls High School, CMR, or Paris Gibson Education Center to be eligible.

The new scholarships will "help gifted tradesman or women pursue necessary education and training". The scholarships are in honor of Tyler, who was a C-130 Propulsion Specialist with the Montana Air National Guard for 13 years, and for Wyatt, who aspired to follow in his father's footsteps.
Deadline for Students to Apply in Great Falls is Coming Soon
Students need to apply for scholarships at Great Falls Public Schools by February 15, 2026, to be eligible. Applicants have two separate scholarships that are available:
- $2500 Scholarship for a student pursuing post-secondary career training with a certificate, technical school or trade school
- $2000 Scholarship for a student pursuing and apprenticeship
Requirements beside being a student at one of the above schools include:
- 2.0 grade average
- Community Involvement
- Post-secondary plans
- Shared Essays
