GF Americans received an unexpected weekend off
Great Falls Americans are 8-6 in the Frontier Division and sit in 4th place. Each week I visit with Head Coach Greg Sears and here is part of the interview, you can hear the full audio version at the bottom of the story:
Randy: Kind of a rare occurrence having a game postponed for the reason it did. Tell me about it
Coach Greg Sears: Got the call about 1:00 o’clock on Saturday that the game is going to be postponed due to a referee shortage and unable to find help for that night. So kind of a bummer for our guys and really was looking forward to that game and I know Helena was expecting a big crowd, so it was a tough one.
Randy: How often does that happen? I know in high school sports we see it quite bit but in the frontier division of the NA3HL, is that a regular occurrence or is this pretty rare?
Coach Greg Sears: That's the first time I've ever seen that in junior hockey at this level. I know they're out looking for refs nationwide, but yeah, definitely the first time I've seen it.
Randy: Of course the silver lining is the fact that it gives your kids one more weekend to heal up because injuries have been a problem.
Coach Greg Sears: Big off weekend for us, now looking back at it, some guys sick and some guys banged up. So get Aaron Leaf back this week from a broken nose and hopefully we'll be healthy heading in the Sheridan.
Randy: Just lead right into that big road trip down there Friday and Saturday.
Coach Greg Sears: Yeah, we haven't been out of town other than the Butte so the guys are looking forward to spending some time together. This is a good group and Sheridan is always a tough team, so be a good test for us here hitting the road on Friday.
Randy: Safe travels and we'll talk to you next week.
