First Of Its Kind AI Technology Coming to This Store in Montana

Each January, the Consumer Technology Assocation hosts an event showcasing the latest and greatest in, shocker alert, technology.  Meaning everything from the coolest innovations with smart phones or computers, televisions, pretty much anything that has to do with advancements in technology.

The event, the Consumer Electronics Show, or CES, again shown brightly this year with major advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the benefits it could bring to society as a whole.  And while generally speaking it is all about the hardware, a major chain will be implementing AI you won't even know about.

Walmart Inc. Announces Major Changes Coming to Sam's Club

In a press release on Monday, January 9th, Walmart Inc. announced that Sam's Club will start using a first of its kind AI technology to help shoppers speed up their trip even more.  Instead of needing to wait in que to show a member service representative your receipt, computer vision technology will take over.

The Seamless Exit Technology will allow consumers to use a checkout lane or use the Scan & Go for products and not have to wait in line any longer.  In the release, Walmart stated:

after a member completes payment at a register or via Scan & Go, a combination of computer vision and digital technology deployed in the exit area of the club captures images of carts and verifies payment for all items within a member’s basket.

How Soon Before We Will See Montana Sam's Clubs Have Them?

Walmart Inc. has already had this technology running in a select group of test stores, but not in Montana.  However, it won't be long before you will be seeing it:

the company said it will continue iterating and enhancing the technology through early 2024, intending to rapidly expand it to its nearly 600 clubs by the end of the year.
