How Technology is Making Fencing Easier in Montana

I grew up in Central Montana on a large cattle ranch.  As such, keeping all those animals in their respective areas was imperative.  Having good fences was a huge part of that operation each day.

And with that as well, came countless hours of walking fence lines on the ranch, a bucket of staples, hammer, pliers and a roll of wire to do repairs.  The only thing larger than the hours walking was how many staples I pounded on those fence lines.

Even if you haven't built a fence before, you have probably tried to use a hammer at some point and smacked your finger or thumb.  Now imagine doing that for an entire summer as a youth.

But what if you didn't have to use a hammer for those staples?  Tool manufacturer Dewalt has introduced a new tool that does the swing and holding for you.  A battery-operated fence stapler.

Bit Pricey, But Think of the Time on the Fence in Montana It Would Save

The new tool is pretty cool to look at, operating just like a regular pin or stapler operated via air, but with batteries.  The unit is a little pricey though, averaging around $650 online.

What do you think?  As a rancher would you have one of these instead of the trusty hammer with you?  Does it work to throw it at a rattlesnake making a home around a fence post?
