As I have gotten up there in years, there are a few things in the memory bank that have become a little foggy with time.  So, feel free to correct me if I am wrong on this statement.  It wouldn't be the first time I remembered incorrectly.

"They don't teach the state song in schools."

Am I right, or am I wrong?  I even messaged a few old school friends to see if they remembered having to memorize the state song of Montana.  A resounding no is all I received.  School fight songs?  Yes.  The National Anthem?  You bet.  But the state song never was a must learn through school, nor do I remember ever reciting it during those years.

The History Behind the State Song of Montana - A Little Bit of Time Coming

Even though Montana became an official state in the year of 1889, it didn't have a theme song until February of 1945.  "Montana" was written by Charles Cohan, with the musical accompaniment done by Joseph E. Howard.

In an updated post on Wikipedia, here are the official lyrics of our state song:

Tell me of that Treasure State,
Story always new,
Tell of its beauties grand
And its hearts so true.
Mountains of sunset fire
The land I love the best
Let me grasp the hand of one
From out the golden West
Montana, Montana, Glory of the West
Of all the states from coast to coast, You're easily the best
Montana, Montana, Where skies are always blue
M-O-N-T-A-N-A
Montana I love you!
Each country has its flower;
Each one plays a part,
Each bloom brings a longing hope
To some lonely heart.
Bitterroot to me is dear
Growing in my land
Sing then that glorious air
The one I understand.
Montana, Montana, Glory of the West
Of all the states from coast to coast, You're easily the best
Montana, Montana, Where skies are always blue
M-O-N-T-A-N-A
Montana I love you!
