Learning More About the Great Falls Police Department Citizen Academy
The Great Falls Police Department academy allows residents of Great Falls to see up close and personal just what happens in the daily routine of a law enforcement person. Participants learn what happens in the day-to-day operations of the station, what each officer or civilian does within the department, and hands on experience in multiple areas.
Citizens can also experience the following:
- Investigation procedure
- Use of force
- A ride-along with an officer
- Police procedure
- Learn about call center
Instructors for the academy include officers and personnel that are experts in their field. Topis that they will cover include:
- Special Case and Victims Unit
- High Risk Unit
- DUI Unit
- Narcotics Investigations
- Police Culture/PTSD
- Animal Control

To get the inside look, you will need to sign up as soon as possible. In order to be considered for the academy, the GFPD states:
Participants must be 18 years of age or older. They must be a resident of Great Falls or the surrounding area. We will conduct background checks on all participants. Participant approval will be at the discretion of the Academy facilitator and the police administration.
