Major League Hall of Famer to be Honored in Great Falls

• The Great Falls Voyagers baseball team will be honoring former Major League pitcher and Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez at a special event in August
• The event will feature throwback jerseys for kids, mural unveiling and a city proclamation declaring it Pedro Martinez Day
• Martinez will be on hand for the event in Great Falls, throwing out the ceremonial first pitch of the game

Major League Hall of Famer to be Honored in Great Falls

35 years ago, the city of Great Falls welcomed in a 18-year-old kid from the Dominican Republic to the baseball stadium in Central Montana for his rookie year on the plate in 1990.

He would soon become a top prospect in the Pioneer League System that summer and become one of the greatest pitchers to play the game of baseball.  On August 23rd, 2025, that same player will be back in Great Falls for one more pitch.

One of the Best Gets His Start in Great Falls with the Pioneer League

Before our current player development league with the Voyagers, Great Falls was home to Pioneer League Baseball, with drafted rookie players taking the field as part of the Los Angeles Dodgers hoping to make the show.

Baseball Hall of Fame member Pedro Martinez was part of those days, and in just a short time would be noticed for his talent on the mound.  Martinez would be a top prospect with a 3.62 ERA over 77 innings and 14 starts as a rookie and on his way to becoming one of the greatest pitchers of all time.

He followed that by rising through the ranks to pitch in the major leagues, including stops with the Dodgers, Expos, Mets and Red Sox.  Martinez would also win 3 Cy Young Awards and help Boston win their first World Series in 86 years.

Martinez to Be Honored at Voyager Stadium on August 23rd, 2025

The special honor ceremony will be taking place at the Voyager Stadium in Great Falls, Montana during the evening game on August 23, 2025.  Festivities for the evening will include:

• A new mural at the stadium featuring Pedro Martinez
• Throwback jersey giveaway for first kids at the stadium
• City proclamation to make "Pedro Martinez Day"

Martinez will also be on hand for the event and is expected to take the mound one more time at the stadium to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.  The gates will open at 6pm at the stadium with the Voyagers taking on the Billings Mustangs for the night.  You can get tickets in advance here, or at the box office.
