This Popular Roadway Now Closed in Montana for Season
Travelling across the state of Montana is a wonderous thing. Its beauty is breathtaking. But it also creates a little bit of a problem when winter hits and we want to be out driving.
So much so that the State of Montana Highway Department has seasonal closures of roadways at the ready when Mother Nature decides it is time to make things white. Some of those closures are already happening in higher elevations.
Latest Closures in Montana Effect Some Popular Roadways in the State
Certain areas are always expected to be closed once the tourists are gone and the snow flies. Think Going to the Sun Roadway in Glacier Park. Or most of the roads near Yellowstone National Park.

But other roadways that are popular destinations are also on the list with the MDT for seasonal closure. The latest closure involves the popular Beartooth Highway area, between Montana and Wyoming.
3 Other Popular Roadways Also Closed for the Season in Montana
Along with the Beartooth, 3 other major roads popular with outdoor enthusiasts are closed to all traffic. From the MDT website they are:
- MT-38 Skalkaho Pass in Ravalli/Granite counties
- MT-49 Looking Glass Highway in Glacier County
- S-471 Thompson Pass in Sanders County
Dependent upon weather conditions, these roads will remain closed until being re-opened for the recreational season in 2025.
