January is National Radon Action Month.
Is Radon Harmful?
Yes, it can be. Odorless, tasteless, and colorless, radon gas can build up in homes over the years. To much exposure to high levels of radon can increase the risk of lung cancer. The only way to know if you are exposed to high levels of radon is with testing for this harmful gas. Winter is the best time to test for radon as we tend to have our homes less ventilated than in the summer months, when we have open doors and windows.
Radon is the number one cause of lung cancer in non‐smokers and roughly 21,000 people die every year from radon caused lung cancer in the United States.
According to several studies by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
