How Veterans in Montana Can Receive Free Meat
It is sometimes amazing to me some of the great organizations that dot our city, county and state. No matter, Montana residents always seem to step up and volunteer, donate, organize and care.
Of those organizations that give back, there are several that involve our veterans in the state. A recent one to catch my eye has been around for the past six years and has been giving back to veterans by the literal tons.
How Montana Hunters and Ranchers are Helping This Organization
Over those past 6 years the Montana Veterans Meat Locker has given back to veterans in the state by handing out over 220,000 pounds of meat and served over 13,000 of those same veterans.

The group behind the locker are all volunteers, with no paid positions. The ability to give back to veterans is by donations of wild game or domestic animals from ranches across the state. Animals are taken to local processors, picked up and then distributed to veterans in Montana.
All Veterans Qualify in Montana with Proof of Service
The Montana Veterans Meat Locker is available to all veterans in Montana with proof of service to include:
- VA card
- DD214
- Any other valid form of ID
Once verified the organization will then "furnish the Veteran with an ample amount of meat, free of charge, to sustain him or her for a couple weeks."
