One of the first things I learned about when moving to Montana was bears. We're smack dab in the middle of bear country and if you're careless, not paying attention, and ignore all warnings from officials, you could wind up in a rough situation.

All of that said, I've always counted my lucky stars that these wonderous beasts typically stick to their areas, right? Not so fast...

Family of Grizzly Bears Spotted Near Montana Property

In a video we received from Jerry, Diane, and Neal C., security cameras capture what appears to be a family of grizzly bears

"I about stepped on them in my own yard," Neal said of his video. "Way too many. Another pic shows 7 of them."

Sure enough, the video shows a pack of seemingly gigantic grizzly bears making their way across the land southeast of Pendroy. The group also shared photos from their property showing just how fearless these bears in the area are.

I had a chance to chat with Jerry and he shared other encounters where he got to get a closer look from his truck.

"These pictures were about a mile from the ranch probably," Jerry said by text.

Still, he cautioned trying to get that close, mentioning a buddy who did the same and had to endure a grizzly clawing and chewing up his ride.

Yikes.

Should This Be Alarming for Montanans?

I can't speak for a lot of people but if this was me, I'd be a little worried - especially if I had livestock.

Unfortunately, under the current rules, there's not much you can do outside of doing your best to keep them away. Of course, if they attack you or your livestock, you have a right to defend yourself.
