Here's Why You Might Here Gunshots At Great Falls Schools

On Friday, November 1, 2024, all Great Falls Public Schools Will be closed from 8 AM to 3:30 PM.

During this timeframe, only staff will be allowed in the schools, and children will not be able to access the playground.

Increased traffic around the schools is likely during this time, and people nearby may hear loud noises.

School Closures for Safety Training

Great Falls Public Schools is taking proactive measures to train staff to react to an armed intruder to better protect and keep students safe.

"Our top priority is school safety, every day," said Executive Director Lance Boyd. "This training will allow our staff to prepare for real-life situations, ensuring they are ready to respond swiftly and effectively if such an event were to occur."

The goal of the training is to prevent incidences and prepare to ensure safety in our schools.

The armed intruder training is designed to teach school personnel the strategies needed to protect students if an incident was to occur.

The training will include collaboration with local law enforcement and first responders and work to promote a coordinated response to emergencies.

As part of the training, law-enforcement first responders and school personnel will participate in live simulated events.

This will consist of simulated gunshots and other noises.

Community members can expect increased traffic on Friday in and around Great Falls Public Schools.
