FDA WARNING: Major Brand of Cottage Cheese Under New Recall
If there is one type of food that most of us can agree is absolutely amazing, it's cheese. Cheese goes with almost anything and everything; and don't even get us started on the different types of cheeses.
If you're a cottage cheese fan, however, you'll want to double-check your fridge as soon as possible.
Popular Cottage Cheese Sold in Montana Gets Recalled
Like many others around the country, cottage cheese is a household favorite of my kids and one of their go-to snacks.
Unfortunately for us and fellow cottage cheese lovers, a major recall has been issued by Saputo Cheese USA Inc. (SUSA or Saputo) according to the FDA.
The three products being recalled are:
- Great Value Fat Free Small Curd Cottage Cheese – 0% Milkfat; 24 oz. container; UPC: 078742373393; Best if Used by Dates: APR-01-26 and APR-03-26
- Great Value Lowfat Small Curd Cottage Cheese – 2% Milkfat; 24 oz. container; UPC: 078742116730; Best if Used by Dates: APR-01-26, APR-02-26, and APR-03-26
- Great Value Small Curd Cottage Cheese – 4% Milkfat Minimum, 16 oz, 24 oz, and 3 lb. container; UPCs: 078742372358, 078742372365, 078742147970; Best if Used by Dates: APR-01-26 and APR-02-26
The FDA says the voluntary recall is "due to the possibility of liquid dairy ingredients used in the items not being fully pasteurized according to state regulatory standards."
Luckily, the bad cheese hasn't resulted in any illnesses or hospitalizations. That said, Montanans will have to be cautious as the cheese was sold in Montana stores under the "Great Value" brand.
The FDA says the recalled cheese was sold to consumers between "February 17 and February 20, 2026."
