According to the website fooddive.com, Mark Tobin from California and Dante Melendez and Destiny Morrisson from Minnesota brought the lawsuit.
The two plaintiffs are collectively seeking $5 million and damages.
Cocoa Puff Lead Levels
Evidently, the plaintiffs are alleging that a single cup of Cocoa Puffs contains just under the state’s maximum allowable lead limit of 0.5 micrograms.
The lost lawsuit goes on to say that General Mills failed to disclose that their product could pose a potential health risk and lead poisoning to consumers.
General Mills' Accused Of Lead In Cereal
At this time, General Mills has refrained from commenting on the pending litigation.
The company has not provided any more details regarding the lawsuit or accusations.
Heavy Metals in Chocolate
Evidently, heavy metal cereal is not a new concern.
according to Fooddive.com, back in 2023, consumer reports found high levels of lead, cadmium, or both in 16 out of 48 chocolate products tested.
Their report specifically highlighted Hershey and a few other companies, asking them to reduce the heavy metal content in their products.
