The Best Warrior in Montana – Who Will Represent the State?

Beginning this week, Montana National Guard members will be traveling to Helena for the annual competition to determine who in the state is the "Best Warrior in Montana".  They will also be able to represent Montana in the regional contest coming soon.

This year's competition will feature 13 Guard members, each from different units from across the state.  Each service member will face various tests through the week of the competition, described as "one of the toughest weeks of physical and mental endurance imaginable".

The Best Warrior in Montana - Who Will Represent the State?

While testing both physical and mental strength, the Best Warrior in Montana Competition features over 25 different events, including:

• Inventory checks
• Target shooting
• Written tests

The competition is held at Fort Harrison in Helena, Montana from April 13-17, 2026.  When the event concludes on Friday, one of the Montana National Guard members will receive the title of "Best Warrior in Montana" and will advance to the regional competition and represent Montana.

According to the Montana National Guard social media, the event is "designed to prepare soldiers for the challenges they may face in the field and to demonstrate their skills and commitment to their duties".

The state-wide competition is open to all Montana National Guard service members and "it is a significant event that highlights the dedication and training of the Guard's members."  You can follow updates through the week during the competition here.
