Montana’s Appearance On The “Ugliest Buildings” List

I know I wasn't born in Montana or in Great Falls, but both of them have been my home for over 25 years, but forgive me if I get a bit defensive here.

A real estate group out of New Jersey compiled a list of the top 100 ugliest buildings in America, and Montana just made 2 appearances.

How Ugly Can A Building Be?

First off, we're going to talk about a building I really don't know about and don't know exactly why it's so ugly.

Robert Dekanski at Re/Max 1st Advantage is who put this list together, and their first Montana entry came at #54, and it's the Flathead County Justice Center in Kalispell.

Looking at it online, it just looks like a regular government building, nothing fancy but not ugly. Considering they only give explanations for the top 5 buildings, we won't know why they think this building is ugly, which also goes for the building in Great Falls they say is ugly as well.

Constructed in 1939 at a cost of $685,000, the Great Falls Civic Center and Mansfield Theater are a testament to the lasting legacy of the Art Deco style of architecture.

Ugly On The Outside, Beautiful On The Inside

While the Civic Center - the 96th ugliest building on the list - may not appear impressive from the outside, its interior reveals a different narrative.

You'll find hand etchings and marble staircases, along with the 1,800-seat Mansfield Theater adorned with gold.

So while Montana might have two of the ugliest buildings in America, at least we don't live in New Jersey, am I right?!!
