While death is the highest cost paid during an accident, just a fender bender can be expensive.

That is another metric WalletHub used to determine the worst states for teen drivers.

Besides just safety and fatalities, they looked at how much insurance costs, how much repairs cost, how much specific tickets, such as speeding or running a red light cost, and how much gas costs.

Then they also looked at laws such as driving while using your cell phone (Montana is the only state without a statewide ban on it) or how lenient states are when it comes to DUIs.
