Do Kids Even Notice Summer In Montana Anymore?

I might not be a kid getting summer break anymore, but I still love summers in Montana.

These days, I find myself wondering if kids even recognize that it's summer outside in Montana.

Summers Before 2000: Freedom, Fun, and Zero Screens

My kids were amazed the other day when I told them that my mother kicked me outdoors after breakfast, and the only times I was allowed in were to use the bathroom and eat lunch and dinner.

If you were born before 2000, summers weren't just a break from school; they were freedom from rules.

I'm honestly surprised my friends and I didn't recreate "Lord of the Flies" every afternoon.

A Trip Down Memory Lane: Growing Up Montana Style

As a Xennial (the group bridging Gen X and Millennials), I feel very lucky, as we had a digital-free childhood and were one of the last ones to do so.

We barely had 3 channels of TV to watch, let alone a computer in our pocket.

We crawled over and under fences, played in creeks, rode bikes until the streetlights came on, and got plenty of grass stains to prove we played hard.

I feel sorry that the younger generation didn't get to experience that, but for those of us at a certain age, why not take a trip down memory lane and remember all the fun times you had growing up?
