Exciting News for Horse Racing Fans in Montana Announced
When 2024 rolled in, many of us were still trying to recoup from the holidays and trying to get back into the saddle of everyday life and work. For some of us in Great Falls, it meant a traditional sport returns in the form of rodeo. Maybe that is why this announcement didn't get a lot of press. But it should. Because horse racing means extra money into our area.
I really hope that I am not letting the cat out the bag too soon on this. Or should that be turning the horse out to pasture to soon? Or putting the carriage before the horse? However you look at it, it means great things for horse racing in Montana, and even more for Great Falls.
Horse Racing Has Struggled, But This Announcement Helps in Montana
In past years, horse racing appeared to be on the downward slope of not happening in the Electric City. A tradition for years in the summer and coordinating with the Montana State Fair just made it even better. That spiral is now upward, and teaming with a major event will see it continue to grow larger.
In a partnership between the Great Falls Turf Club, The World-Famous Miles City Bucking Horse Sale along with 307 Horse Racing - Energy Downs, it was announced they plan to bring The Golden Triangle Triple Crown to Wyoming and Montana. And that will bring an added $50,000-dollar bonus to one of the horse owners.
Bigger Purses, Bigger Owners, Better Horses, New Jockeys in Montana
The Triangle Triple Crown is only one part of that big announcement. The social media post also includes details on The Golden Triangle Stakes. $15,000 will be awarded to both breeds of Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses based on points earned in races in Gillette, Wyoming, Miles City and Great Falls.
My personal hope in this announcement is that breeders, owners, jockeys, horse race lovers and those that are curious come out in droves. Perhaps it will motivate larger racers to come to Montana and Great Falls. Bigger purses, more audience and heart-thumping action? Plus, monies being spent at our businesses? Seems like a win all around for us.
