These Amazing Dragon Boats will Be Coming to Montana

There are some pretty unique events happening throughout the year across the state.  Just in the last few months there have been science fiction and tattoo conventions.

Those aren't out of the ordinary type events, but probably less expected than say something like a skijoring competition in Browning.

But what about a "dragon boat racing" festival to be held in Polson?  Yep, like I said, less expected than say a "testicle festival", am I right?

Origins of the Dragon Boat Race and How They Operate

Dragon boat races date back in Chinese history over 2,000 years according to Travel China Guide.  The origins of the race were to save an ancient poet Qu Yuan, who was drowning.

Competitive dragon boat racing began in the 1970's, in turn becoming a world-wide sport, including Montana since 2012 on Flathead Lake.

This year's event, The Montana Dragon Boat Festival, from the Silver Lining Foundation, will be held in Polson, MT on September 7th, 2024.  The event also features "the first (and only) all breast cancer survivor dragon boat and outrigger canoe team in Montana" according to their site.
