Heading into the new year, I have had high hopes that my news feeds wouldn't have quite the "blahs" to them.  And for the most part, they have been.  But once in a while, I have to re-evaluate my expectations.  But not that of my social media feed, but of people in general.

Such is the case with the recent report of vandalism at the Black Sandy Beach State Park.  Because I can't believe that someone or a group of people thought that this wouldn't be found.  And those people finding this mess are shaking their heads just like I am at the lack of respect it shows.

Officials Looking for Answers to Vandalism at Montana Park

Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks are looking for information on the person(s) that were involved in burning wood pallets at the park, located between Great Falls and Helena.  The event is suspected to have occurred during the weekend of January 16, 2026.

The vandal(s) burned wood pallets on one of the RV concrete parking pads.  Not only that, but they also didn't even bother to clean up after themselves.

This is why we can't have nice things!  I guess at least they burned them on the concrete, and not in the open grass areas which could have been an even bigger mess.

How to Report Vandalism with Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks

Individuals with possible information about the vandalism at the Black Beach State Park or any natural resource violation, can contact MFWP through TIP-MONT or contacting any local game warden with the agency.  Violations include:

  • poaching
  • vandalism
  • littering
  • cultural resource theft

Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks also reminded recreationists that "in Montana State Parks all fires must be contained within steel fire rings, and burning pallets is prohibited".  Officials added that "acts of vandalism such as this leads to tire damage from nails in the pallets, and time-consuming cleanup for park staff."
