Police in Billings, Montana have released new information on a possible hate crime in Montana's largest city.  Authorities are investigating graffiti spray-painted on a local church building in the city within the past week.

As the investigation is continuing, the Billings Police Department has issued a press release to help bring those responsible to justice.

New Details on Possible Hate Crime at Church in Billings

Billings Police have reported that hateful symbols and rhetoric had been painted on the walls of the Mayflower Church.  Some of those symbols included swastikas and more at the Just Peace/Open and Affirming Congregation.

Chief of Police Rich St. John stated in the release that these were not just acts of vandalism at the church:

They are an attack on members of our community, an attempt to intimidate and a symbol of violence and oppression and have no place in our community.

Investigation is Ongoing, with Officers Reviewing Surveillance and More

As the investigation in Billings continues, police are following leads and information to make a formal arrest of the individual or individuals responsible.  Officers are canvassing the areas near the church, reviewing surveillance footage and collecting any physical evidence when available.

The Billings Police Chief also addressed the perpetrators directly in the release:

To the person or people responsible for this hateful act, we will find you, and you will be held fully accountable under the law.  Hate-fueled crimes are not expressions of free speech; they are deliberate attempts to threaten and divide.  We will not allow that to stand.
