What's Up with That Big Star on the Tree in Great Falls?
This past weekend Great Falls residents were treated to the annual Parade of Lights through our downtown district. The annual event officially kicks off the holiday season with parade and lighting of the city tree by Santa.

Did you happen to notice the big star on the tree this year once it was lit? This an all-new tradition for the city, helped by one man with a plan.
Where Does the Tree Come From? What's Up with the Star?
This year, according to Kellie Pierce from the Downtown Great Falls Association, with the 40th Christmas Stroll approaching, they wanted and needed to do something special. Volunteer Adam Reers took on the challenge of creating this amazing sculpture to adorn the tree. He proceeded to build and weld a lightweight star for the top this year. Committee members wrapped it with lights and the Great Falls Park and Rec Department added it along with strings of lights.
Have to say, it looks incredible and is stunning in the evening.
Have A Tree? Want It to Be the City Tree? Here's How!
Have you ever wondered where that tree comes from each year to be placed at the Civic Center? Do you have a tree in your yard that you think would work perfectly for 2024 or beyond? The association is always looking for submissions.
The Downtown Great Falls Association collects submissions from residents throughout the year who want to donate their tree. The tree selection committee then goes out and chooses the best tree from those submissions. Want to get started right now? Check out the DGFA website for more details.
