Altercation Results in Armed Suspect Being Arrested in Hobson

After nearly two hours of negotiation on Wednesday evening in Hobson, MT., an armed standoff with a man is finally defused after a fight escalated in the small town.

The initial incident stemmed from a fight that turned worse when the suspect retrieved a weapon from his vehicle and entered a home in the town located 82 miles east Great Falls.

Incident Required Officers to Ask for Assistance from Nearby Fergus County

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Central Montana Dispatch received a call from a citizen regarding a fight in Hobson that escalated to one party retrieving a weapon from their vehicle.  The suspect then entered a home.

Judith Basin County Sheriff's Office officers were called to the scene.  En route, officers requested assistance from the Fergus County Sheriff's Office.  Upon arrival, officers discovered the armed man was in the home and refusing to come out.

Physical Altercation with Deputy, Suspect Arrested and in Custody in Lewistown, MT

After over two hours of negotiations, the suspect did come out of the home.  After more negotiations, a physical altercation with deputies occurred, resulting in one being hurt.  He has been examined and is doing well.

The suspect was arrested and transported to a hospital in Lewistown, MT.  After being checked by doctors, they were then taken into custody and are being held at the Fergus County Detention Center at this time.  Authorities state that there is no danger to the public, but to please allow investigators time to assess the scene.  You can see the full press release here.
