Military appreciation abounds in Montana. Especially in Central Montana where Malmstrom Air Force Base is located. Our schools are full of children from across the country, and from all walks of life.

To help celebrate those families in America that make that sacrifice, a special day in April has been set aside to recognize them with one special day during the month to go all out and celebrate them.
How The Purple Up Day Came About Across America and Montana
In 1986, former Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger established the Month of the Military Child. According to the website Operation Military Kids, Purple Up! For Military Kids Day was established as part of the Month of the Military Child as a day to acknowledge and celebrate these kids by wearing the color purple.

The color purple represents support for all of the military branches in the US through the combination for their colors. By wearing this special color, it signifies unifying support for military-connected children within all branches of the military and at all levels of service.
Celebrations For Great Falls Public Schools Purple Up Day
Purple Up for Kids Day is coming on April 18th, 2024. Great Falls Public Schools encourage everyone to dress in purple for the day and to help celebrate these children in our public and private schools.
