Montana FFA Group Breaks Ground on New Farm and Garden
Montana receives a ton of recognition for being the Big Sky State and offering visitors the opportunity to see magnificent landscapes. It also receives that recognition for the outdoors and the cowboy way of life we live.
But one aspect that seems too often to be overlooked is the other side of the agricultural business in Montana. The farming community and the immense contributions that those growers make in our state.

No Longer the Future Farmers of America in Montana
Many of us probably think of the FFA as the Future Farmers of America. But a name change in 1988 to the National FFA Organization was to reflect the growing diversity of agriculture. The mission in Montana remains the same, to "a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education."

Those skills are being tested by one Montana group of youths in Belgrade. Students recently were able to break ground on a new project that hopes to bring those values to the forefront.
Belgrade FFA Steps Up, Breaking Ground for New Farm for Residents
The Belgrade FFA has broken ground on a new endeavor for not only the students in FFA, but also the entire community. The Belgrade High School Ag classes and FFA have partnered with the City of Belgrade to create a 14-acre school farm and community garden plot.

In a release through social media, the group said that the idea of the project is to "provide a space for students to have hands-on experiences with agriculture and for Belgrade community members to have access to gardening space, agricultural education, and space to recreate." I am hoping more groups take note, and we see more of this around our state.
