New Update: Glacier Park Home Dispute Still Ongoing
The Fight Over The Ambler House Rolls On In Flathead County
I can't believe we've been talking about these shenanigans for 2 years. I'm talking about the Ambler house in Glacier National Park.

Here's a brief synopsis:
- In 2023 John and Stacy Ambler of San Diego California, begin building a 3 story 2,100 square foot home on a creek bed in Glacier National Park. The Amblers began the build without obtaining a free 310 permit in Flathead County.
- November 1, 2023 The Amblers were ordered to tear the house down and remediate the streambank. Obviously, they did not
- February 2023, A Montana Fish Wildlife and Park biologist examined the build and determined that the house had violated the law with excavation. The unfinished home is around 20 feet from the creek at its lowest point. The home is much closer when the water is higher. The home is also located on a bend in the creek that is eroding away
- In February of 2025 a federal judge sided with the Amblers
- February 2025, The Amblers have filed motions against Montana for more than 300 hours of attorney's fees at around $80,986.50. That's a pretty good chunk of change on top of your stalled build. Maybe just tear it down and write it off
- In March 2025 The Flathead Conservation District and Friends of Montana Streams and Rivers each submitted an appeal to the US Court of Appeals of the Ninth Circuit
- September 2025 The Flathead Conservation District argued that, without a federal law, the case should default to Montana law's regulatory arm and that Montana's local conservation district laws and rules should apply

Now we just wait.
Look how close this is to the creek bed. For the love of common sense, that is eroding all the time. Thus the need for a 310 permit. Nature WILL have it's way with this place eventually.
In Closing, To John And Stacy
I hope you don't mind me calling you by your first names. You're so well-known in Montana now, it seems silly to use Mr. and Mrs.
Again, I urge you to consider your quality of life in Montana if you insist on building monstrosity in Glacier Park.
Nobody, and I mean nobody (except the "Montana" lawyer that is making money off of this case) wants you here.
No matter what you do or say for the rest of time (that's not an exaggeration) you and your family will be shunned. For generations. A generational shunning.
How will that affect your yearly escape to Glacier? (Surely wealthy Californians such as yourself wouldn't live in such a tiny little house in such a backwoods state year-round.)
We will, of course, update you when there's more information
