
Free Trapper Education Coming To Great Falls
Fur trading and trapping are what put Montana on the map well over a century ago.
Long before Montana was a state, traders made their way out west in hopes of sending furs back east and making a quick buck.
Although the fur trade is a ghost of what it used to be, some folks here in the Treasure State carry on the legacy of trapping.
Fur Trapping In Montana
Anyone interested in learning more about trapping in Montana is invited to attend the free Trapper Education Field Day, which will take place in Great Falls in May.
The event is scheduled for Friday, May 10th, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Region 4 office.

What is Trapper Education?
The Montana trapper education program is a two-part requirement for any Montana resident aged 12 and older who wants to purchase a Class C trapping license.
The course is also required for anyone who is interested in wolf trapping.
Online coursework to complete at your own pace.
In-person field day led by experienced volunteer instructors
What to Expect at the Field Day
The field day gives students the chance to work directly with trapping gear and receive practical instruction from seasoned trappers.
Topics covered include:
Trapping safety and techniques.
Montana trapping laws and regulations.
Ethical and responsible trapping practices.
Fur handling and preparation.
