Tax season is officially here and for many, it's time to gather up documents, W-2s, and all of those fun receipts you got stored in a shoe box.

For some, it's a headache while for others who rely on automation services like TurboTax, it's all about getting it done to get that refund.

Tax Season = Scam Season

As we can all imagine, this time of year is a prime time for scammers to be on the prowl, looking for their next victim.

Recently, the IRS shared a reminder for people to pay close attention and watch their backs.

"Identity thieves might use [your] information to try filing false tax returns and stealing refunds," the IRS said in their statement, "The IRS and Security Summit partners want taxpayers, tax professionals and businesses to keep a watchful eye out for the threats listed below."

These threats include social media scams, phishing/smishing (fake e-mails to take your info), scams targeting senior citizens, cyberattacks, and of course, various forms of identity theft.
