Reasons Why Trunk Or Treating Is Devastating Montana Halloween
Halloween In Montana Is Changing
Every year that my kids have been old enough to go trick or treating we take them out and usually go downtown and walk through the Safe trick or treat and then go back to our neighborhood and trick or treat where lights are on.
Lately there seems to be less and less homes handing out candy at their doors. There has been a new trend that popped up and who knows where it started from but all I see are Trunk or Treats.

What Are "Trunk Or Treats" In Montana
Essentially instead of walking up and down each sidewalk to get to peoples houses you just gather a bunch of cars in a parking lot and hand out candy from the "trunk." This has especially been seen with organizations and companies wanting to drive traffic to their place of business in hopes the parents might let their kids wander the parking lot while they check out the business or organization but since it can be so quick to walk through a parking lot you end up having to go to more and more parking lots. Most of the information I found said that Trunk or Treats have been around since the mid 90's. The scary part for me is just like the fear of something happening while a kid is out trick or treating is just as possible while standing right next to someone's vehicle meaning they aren't necessarily more safe than traditional trick or treating.
I think part of Trick or Treating that benefits us is being able to build relationships with our neighbors. We may see them in passing but not get a chance to get up close and trick or treating is a great conversation starter.

Is Montana Trick Or Treating Gone?
Is this trend of Trunk or Treats just a way for businesses to get involved? Or is it taking away the neighborhood comradery that comes with Halloween. Either way it is changing the way everyone does Halloween and making trick or treating feel like more of a burden than a fun experience. Before we know it Trick or Treating could be gone altogether.
