Secret Investigation Reveals Pricing Issues In Montana Stores

These days it seems everyone is living paycheck to paycheck, so we're all a little hyper-aware of what we're paying lately.

That's why it's so frustrating to find out that a popular grocery store giant with stores located in Montana has been secretly overcharging their customers.

Are Montana Shoppers Being Overcharged At The Store?

The cost of living seems to be showing no signs of slowing down and, in fact, might get more expensive if economists are correct.

Places like Walmart recently said they would have to increase prices due to the tariffs that are always seemingly in limbo.

Groceries are one of the biggest expenses for most families, and one grocery giant was recently found to knowingly overcharge their customers, according to a secret investigation by Consumer Reports.

How One Grocery Chain May Be Quietly Draining Your Wallet

Consumer Reports has been working on this investigation for months and, on May 14th, published their findings.

After sending secret shoppers to grocery stores in the Kroger family, such as those located in Montana like Smith's, they found that customers were sometimes paying up to $1.70 more than they should.

They found loads of outdated sale price tags on shelves, some only outdated by 10 days, others by almost 3 months.

Kroger representatives say the errors were a "few dozen examples," while employees report that the errors are due to staffing cuts, since there aren't enough employees or hours to get all the tags switched.

This is not the first time that Kroger has found itself in the spotlight when it comes to pricing, as they were found to be price gouging in 2024.
