Fall In Montana Means Hunting Season

As the weather turns cooler and we transition from summer to fall, most people associate this time of year with going back to school.

However, another group of people - hunters - get excited during this time of year because it marks the approaching start of hunting season.

Typical Hunting Seasons In Montana

Generally speaking, most hunting seasons in Montana run during the fall, while there are a few exceptions for spring hunts.

The earliest hunt starts on August 15 with the 900 series for antelope using exclusively archery equipment, while the majority see their start during the first week of September.

However, there are some animals that you are allowed to hunt year-round with just a general hunting license, and sometimes without one at all.

Montana FWP Rules Keep Wildlife Populations Protected

Now, please don't misunderstand; the state of Montana has not permitted individuals to recklessly hunt and deplete the populations of specific animal species.

The state along with the Montana FWP has a very clearly defined list of what animals are allowed to be hunted year-round.

A Reminder Before You Hunt

Allowing people to hunt these animals year-round helps control the population and protect property, including perhaps your backyard garden.

Just remember, while these animals found in the gallery below can be hunted year-round according to the Montana FWP, you still need to ask permission to hunt and access private land.
