What Montana City Is Ranked In The Top 20 For Safety

One of the most talked-about issues in any community is the issue of safety.

Most people think of crime and violence when thinking safety, but there are other factors such as public health or financial safety that can factor into a town's ranking as well.

Two Montana Cities Made The Top 100

WalletHub each year puts out a list of their safest cities in America, and they just released their list for 2024.

Two Montana cities are in the top 100, but it's the one at #71 that may surprise people, as most would consider it the city with the most crime.

WalletHub used 3 metrics—Home & Community, Natural Disaster, and Financial Safety—to get a total score, which put Billings with their score of 60.31 at the #71 spot.

The Safest Town In Montana Is....

Billings did have a pretty bad score when it came to crime, as they were ranked 106 out of 182, so it's their scores of 37 for Natural Disaster and 34 for Financial Safety that brought them up.

Using those same score metrics, the "safest" town in Montana received scores of 55, 8, and 59, giving them a total score of 67.04 and placing them at #14.

That town is Missoula, which, while not a hotbed of crime, has seen a rise in property theft and assault recently, which is concerning for residents and visitors alike.

It's funny how much the lack of a natural disaster or good financial safety can whitewash the crime that happens in a city, and how two publications can have different results when looking at data.
