Well, there's now been a major update as state regulators continue trying to get to the bottom of the mystery.

Montana Moves to Suspend Meadow Gold Plant After Milk Complaints

According to KTVQ, the Montana Department of Livestock is moving to suspend the operating license of the Meadow Gold processing plant in Billings following a series of inspection findings.

If you missed the earlier story, consumers from across Montana have spent the past few weeks reporting that their milk was spoiling before the sell-by date on the container.

Since then, state inspectors have conducted multiple inspections at the Billings facility, documenting sanitation, equipment, and maintenance issues they say need to be addressed.

No Milk Recall Has Been Issued in Montana

Now, it's important to point out that the state has not issued a recall. Officials also say the milk is still considered safe to drink as long as it smells and appears fresh.

Instead, regulators say this latest action is based on what inspectors have found so far while the investigation continues.

The move also comes just days after Dairy Farmers of America said the earlier problems had been corrected. However, Montana inspectors say additional concerns were found during follow-up inspections, leading to this latest step.

While we still don't know exactly why so much milk has been spoiling early across Montana, it's clear state officials are working to determine exactly why Montana families have been finding milk spoiling days before the sell-by date.
