Harness Up for Fun at the Big Sky Draft Horse Expo

The love for horses in Montana continues over the summer with an annual event set for the last weekend of June in Deer Lodge, MT. For over 30 years, the annual Big Sky Draft Horse Expo has been entertaining young and old.

As with past years, the goal of the expo is to "educate the general public about draft horses, mules, and related equipment while entertaining the whole family". Are you ready to interact with an over 1500-pound animal?

Bringing History, Culture and Fun to Montana with Draft Horses

The annual event begins on June 28th, 2024, and will wrap on the 30th. Hosted in historic Deer Lodge, the expo features 5 separate performances during the 3 days, plus a historical demonstration at the Grant-Kohrs Ranch NHS.

Other activities include a country music BBQ on Friday and Saturday, plus concessions each day, cornhole tournaments and more. Patrons will even be able to interact with the draft horses and mules.

If you love horsing around, then the Draft Horse 101 presentation will be the perfect fit for you. Even if you aren't familiar with draft horses, you will be able to have the opportunity to learn about draft horses, harnessing, and some of the equipment used in driving horses.
